This position includes, but is not limited to, performing customer shut offs, assisting in meter change outs, locating duties and providing back-up to Meter Reader and assisting Utility Technicians and Production Department Workers on an as needed basis. Employee may be used to perform basic laborer duties at the company’s water treatment plant or to assist Utility Technicians in various system maintenance duties as assigned. Employee will also fill in for Plant Operators during vacancies per the Union Contract.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Works under the direct supervision of the Distribution Manager or other assigned company personnel who provide instructions, check work during progress and review completed work. The incumbent follows verbal or written instructions or usual procedures. Perform the routine tasks concerned with customer shut offs and locating duties, meter change outs and other field customer service and distribution system maintenance duties. Tasks of the incumbent include, but are not limited to:
- Perform disconnection of service for non-payment.
- Locate company facilities as assigned.
- Assist in meter change out program as assigned.
- Operation, safety inspection and maintenance of vehicles assigned.
- Assist Utility Technicians and Production Department personnel as directed.
- Perform duties related to the distribution system preventative maintenance program as assigned.
- Filling in for Plant Operators during vacancies.
- Performing the duties listed above in a safe manner following IEPA, OSHA, IDOT, USDOT, Company and any other applicable safety rules and regulations.
- Perform after-hours service calls and inspections of various types and be required to be “on-call” on a regular schedule.
- Must have a basic knowledge and understanding of computers.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL OR REGISTRATION QUALIFICATIONS:
Selected candidate must have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Must possess or obtain a valid CDL driver’s license within six (6) months from the date of hire and a minimum Class “D” water operator’s license, within one (1) year from the date of hire, per the union contract. Must possess an awareness of the responsibility to safeguard the water supply and prevent pollution of area surface water as well as proper regard for the use of time and equipment. Have the technical, academic and physical ability to perform the duties of this classification and the ability to interact with all levels of employees within the company and the general public. Be able to readily read, understand, and accurately follow operating instructions as given by supervisors. Must be reliable, resourceful and have a retentive memory with the ability to think and react promptly. Be able to discern between the relative importance of assigned duties. Be able to send and receive instructions by electronically, via radio and/or telephone.
- Effective 6/1, rate of pay: ($30.39 less $3.00) = $27.39
All employees hired or entering the bargaining unit will receive three dollars ($3.00) per hour less than the classification wage rate. The wage reduction will be returned in one dollar ($1.00) increases once a year over a three (3) year period. Employee will receive annual contract increases.
