?Blue Diamond Growers (BDG)? ?is seeking an experienced Senior Marketing Manager? to join its winning team in Sacramento, CA.
  • The Senior Marketing Manager (SMM) will play an active role across all marketing, analysis and research activities within Global Ingredients. The SMM would supervise one Assistant Marketing Managers (AMM).

    The goal is for the SMM to learn the almond industry and play a significant role in the development of the ingredients business.

    The California Almond industry is expecting significant growth in the size of the crop in the next five years. Subsequently, Global Ingredients will be expected to grow volumes in the range of 20%. The SMM is expected to provide a high level of support and work closely with the Marketing Director to define new opportunities for growth, both in products, categories and geographies around the world.

    The SMM would ensure that the team establishes effective communication with sales & operations to establish estimated product demand for new items, and assesses available capacity for new products. They will need to strike a balance by understanding customer priorities and establishing a realistic sense of urgency to be responsive to the market.

    They will ensure that new products are supported by having a formal business case, developed by the PMM with input from sales. The team would be expected to facilitate between the various internal departments to ensure product policy and processes are negotiated, documented, and executed accurately. The SMM would also provide insight and guidance to ensure new products / projects are in alignment with GID strategic, volume and financial objectives.

    Job Duties: Marketing -

    • Innovation and business development –

    o The SMM would assist in the identification and managing new business development opportunities.

    o Assist with transition from innovation stage to commercialization. E.g., almond oil and organic almonds.

    • Collaboration –

    o Ensures the team establishes and builds rapport with manufacturing, sales and marketing to synchronize on the needs of the business.

    • Strategic Planning –

    o Assist with strategic planning efforts for Global Ingredients.

    o Facilitates financial analysis in support of strategic planning and target project prioritization.

    o Works closely with sales to build sales volume plan and identify opportunities for growth.

    o Works with staff to collect insights for the planning process.

    o Prepares appropriate research to support strategic plan.

    o Works closely with the marketing team to develop insights for growth among key tier 1 and tier 2 customers.

    • Other Functions –

    o Assists in budget development for the annual marketing budget.

    o Working in conjunction with sales, obtain competitive samples of key products throughout the year.

    o Build database of competitive product specifications as they become available.

    o Develop competitive product data sheet that provides overview of key specifications by product type.

    o Provide support for other departmental projects as needed.

    o When required, assist customers in specifying product requirements by conducting on-site visits.

    • New Products –

    o Works with PMM’s on development of new products as requested from sales or developed internally.

    o Display a high level of critical thinking in cross-functional process analysis and problem resolution for new and existing products.

    o Ensures the new product process follows established processes.

    o Meet with internal departments as needed during the development process.

    o Lead team meetings as they pertain to the commercialization process of new items.

    o Pre-empts potential problems and provides effective solutions in reaction to the application of concepts, techniques, knowledge, or processes developed to support the new product or product change.

    o Lead training activities and communication of new products / product changes for the sales organization and basic training for new staff.

    Skills / Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

    • Able to work cross functionality across the organization.

    • Capable of mentoring and training staff, as well as holding people accountable.

    • Highly organized.

    • Advanced quantitative analysis skills.

    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.

    o Advanced spreadsheet and numerical analysis skills.

    o Ability to develop sound business cases that depict the market opportunity, product volume and margin analysis.

    • Ability to develop training materials and lead training efforts as it pertains to the product line.

    • The individual should be able to manage several projects at one time with defined deliverables while demonstrating the competency to prioritize and meet timelines.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, engineering, food science.

    • Five years of spreadsheet-based numerical analysis

    • Five- seven years of marketing and product development experience within the food industry.
