Staff Accountant

As a member of the Central Accounting Office, the Staff Accountant will work collaboratively with other members of the finance team and will have primary responsibility for preparing monthly financial statements for various operating entities of the Marcus Hotels & Resorts division.

He/she will:

  • Support multiple hotel operations and administrative departments in a wide range of accounting and financial reporting and analytical activities.
  • Actively assist in preparing and issuing periodic financial statements, tax returns and supporting schedules as required by SOX, various ownership groups, municipalities and/or agreements (management, debt, etc.).
  • Work with property controllers, accounting staff and operations to ensure sufficient controls, processes and procedures to: (a) maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and (b) produce accurate and timely financial information and (c) assist in developing and implementing efficiencies.


  • Responsible for the month-end close and monthly financial statements for a portfolio of operating entities, including the corresponding review and analysis.
  • Act as a financial resource on a consistent basis, collaborating with management company executives, property accounting and Central Accounting teams in discovering creative solutions to improve overall business processes and performance.
  • Develop operational analysis and information for effective and useful decision making.
  • Work collaboratively with property and corporate management staff on all finance and accounting related matters.
  • Assist with the annual strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting process and related analytics.


    Education and Experience

  • Four year accounting or finance degree. CPA or MBA preferred.
  • One to three years accounting/finance experience. Hospitality, real estate or service-industry experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial statements and GAAP concepts.
  • Proven ability to work with complex Excel spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of enterprise-level accounting software systems (PeopleSoft experience preferred).
  • PeopleSoft GL experience preferred.

  • Ability to travel as required (approximately 10-25%).
