Position Description/Company Info:

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer-Hardware/Firmware to join the Building Control Systems Team in Pleasant Grove, UT. The individual in this role will be responsible for the design of new electrical products from concept to production and to code and debug the real time firmware needed for these new products. Working individually or as part of a design team, evaluates and validates product design, specification and design reviews, documentation packages, preproduction builds and transfers to production. Provides guidance and support to engineering team members within discipline and across disciplines.

Required Skills:
  • BS Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience writing firmware programs and hardware design
  • 5+ years of experience with C/C++ and real-time programming experience is required.

Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • FreeRtos or Linux experience is beneficial.
  • Experience with Cortex Mx processors and IAR development tools is beneficial.
  • Experience with Altium design software is beneficial.
  • Must have sound technical knowledge and design skills. Must be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.
  • Must have strong analytical skills and proven ability to efficiently research and summarize information in an effective manner and make recommendations based upon analysis.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as within a variety of teams. Must be highly collaborative to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and data base software, e-mail and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web based resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Must possess excellent project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines and control a number of projects at various stages of work. Must understand the implications of product costing to ensure business goals are met.
  • Must have ability/willingness to travel internationally on a limited basis.

Position Attributes:

Main Job Duties:
  • Program microcontrollers while complying with real time constraint using either bare metal designs, FreeRtos or Linux.
  • Design, build, analyze, and troubleshoot electrical components, sub-assemblies and products.
  • Validate real time performance of products. Avoid, or as needed resolve, priority inversion race conditions and other timing related problems.
  • Use Oscilloscopes, Multimeters and other tools to validate hardware performance and compliance with UL, CE, FCC and other regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate new designs and design changes with engineering, CAD, technical writing, test engineering, and production ensuring that both product and customer documentation is correct and up-to-date.
  • Provide design and code reviews for team's projects.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required.
