Cell Leader - 2nd shift Engine Center WPB

2nd shift Supervisor of hourly mechanics in the WPB Engine Center responsible for managing assembly and test requirements. Responsibilities include allocating and assigning resources, as well as a strong leadership and focus for ACE, FOD, Quality, EH&S and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide leadership and direction with emphasis on team building through employee meetings, effective communications, and in developing an efficient team that is responsive to balance department requirements and change.

  • Primary interface across all shifts to ensure flawless production transition between shifts.

  • Delegate effectively to develop personnel and balance workload

  • Establish standards and expectation for work effort and performance for subordinates. Give constant feedback on performance to those standards.

  • Effectively coach employees to improve performance when needed.

  • Effectively communicate with other department personnel and customers to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Work proactively to address issues and engage the workforce in achieving cell goals.

  • Communicate to peers requirements at supporting process to ensure smooth process flow.

  • Perform administrative functions as related to bargaining unit employees including maintaining training, quality and attendance records.

  • Establish work schedules taking into account customer requirements, resource availability, and other priorities

  • Manage cell overtime within budget and equitably distribute among employees.


  • Ensure department equipment is clean, properly maintained, records and labels properly affixed, and uptime is maximized and that it meets all safety requirements.

  • Ensure that all employees are fully trained in required aspects of Environmental Health & Safety.

  • Ensure World Class safety culture is maintained and respond to all EH&S requirements promptly.

  • Ensure full involvement in ACE continuous improvement initiatives is consistently upheld.

  • Utilize ACE tools to improve production, performance, and reduce scrap, rework, and repair. Achieve ACE levels as planned.

  • Demonstrate a 100% commitment to quality in actions, decisions, and communications. Ensure compliance to all Quality policies and procedures.

  • Control quality, productivity and process flow to meet customer MRP requirements while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.

  • Ensure compliance to P&W policies and procedures.

    Additional Comments:

    Highly motivated individual who enjoys operating in a dynamic environment and who enjoys the challenges of process improvement and "lean" manufacturing initiatives. In addition, the candidate must have strong leadership, analytical skills, multi-tasking skills and work in a fast paced environment.

    Candidate should have success working in high energy, change based operations environment. Ability to plan projects and to use written/verbal/analytical/organization skills to influence business objectives. Candidate should be highly self-directed and able to learn quickly with working knowledge of Continuous Improvement principles (i.e. lean manufacturing, ACE, QCPC, etc.), EH&S principles, SAP experience and PC Microsoft products a plus.

    Occasional weekends are required to meet engine delivery timelines.

    Qualifications *Experience / Qualifications
    4 - 6+ years experience.

    Excellent leadership, communication, problem solving, analytical, prioritization and multi-tasking skills. Ability to work with all levels of management.

    Established background in assembly & test & manufacturing/machining processes.

    Knowledge or ability to utilize PC based information systems.

    Working knowledge of continuous improvement principles (e.g. lean manufacturing, six sigma, ACE, QCPC).

    Supervisory experience with a collective bargaining unit.

    Demonstrated ability to motivate teams using continuous improvement tools to obtain high
    levels of performance and to accomplish goals.

    Working knowledge of engine assembly operations.

    SAP knowledge.
    Education *Education / Certifications
    Bachelor's degree or greater, technical discipline preferred.
