ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: 1. Triages all patients and determines the appropriate level of care. 2. Monitors patients and intervenes appropriately, utilizing the nursing process. 3. Directly provides patient care while delegating to unlicensed personnel appropriate tasks. Accepts and documents patient care supervision on appropriate medical records. 4. Coordinates services of other departments providing care to ED patients. 5. Promotes communication and positive relationships within the unit, with other departments, with the Medical staff and with community agencies. 6. Provides leadership and assistance to staff in other nursing units during emergencies. 7. Demonstrates clinical competence in emergent patient care. 8. Performs clerical duties as necessary to collect patient data, to maintain accurate medical records and to accurately complete patient charges. 9. Maintains a calm and safe environment for patients and employees. 10. Insures the efficient and responsible use of hospital resources. 11. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times, discussing patient or hospital business only when appropriate and necessary to provide quality patient care. 12. Employs tact and courtesy at all times, with patients, physicians, visitors and co-workers. Continually strives to establish and maintain good rapport and working relationships to foster positive intra- and interdepartmental communications. 13 Observes hospital and department policies and procedures. 14. Follows hospital and department safety rules. OTHER DUTIES 1. Requisitions supplies and medications as needed. 2. Regularly attends unit meetings. 3. Participates in the unit quality improvement program. 4. Actively participates in the HRRMC Organizational Strategic plan. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervise other nurses aid volunteers occasionally assigned to ED. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
