Reliability and Risk Management Engineer

In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating and driving improvements in the reliability and/or risk management of Medtronic's Neuromodulation medical products and systems.
This position spans the full range of the product life cycle including research, technology, development, market release, and post-market monitoring of new and derivative products for Medtronic's Pelvic Health business (part of RTG Specialty Therapies)
Medtronic provides sacral neurostimulation products to improve bladder or bowel control.

A Day in the Life / Responsibilities:
  • In this role, you will apply system thinking in planning and executing design for reliability methodologies and/or risk management for products or systems. This involves areas such as mechanical, electrical, software, and data management systems to understand product/system functions, use environments, and therapy clinical performance.
  • As an Engineer, this position is expected to apply practical knowledge and a solid understanding of technical principles, theories, and concepts to contribute to technical solutions in reliability and risk management.
  • This position is also expected to assure compliance to organizational procedures, regulatory requirements and industry standards and work on organizational process improvement projects, cross-functional business improvement teams, and develop shared best practices to drive functional excellence.

The Restorative Therapies Group develops life-restoring therapies and healthcare solutions that span the care continuum; integrating technologies and applying clinical and economic evidence to increase patient access, improve efficiency of procedures and deliver successful patient outcomes.
  • SPECIALTY THERAPIES offers a broad portfolio that addresses urologic and gastrointestinal disorders, conditions of the ear, nose and throat, as well as electrosurgical products for soft tissue dissection and hemostatic sealing of soft tissue and bone.
  • SPINE shapes spine surgery for the better; delivering procedural solutions and therapeutic biologics and partnering with other healthcare stakeholders to accelerate innovations that can improve surgical efficiencies and help create better outcomes for more patients.

  • PAIN THERAPIES offers solutions - from early interventional procedures to implantable surgical technologies - that treat chronic pain as well as pain from spinal fractures, cancer and severe spasticity.


Must Have: Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2+ years of engineering experience


Preferred experience:
  • Experience in risk management, product safety, reliability, or systems engineering
  • Experience in medical devices or other highly regulated industry
  • Experience working in Systems, Design, Quality, or Operations
  • Experience in mechanical, electrical, software, or data management systems
  • Experience leading or participating in risk management per ISO 14971
  • Knowledge of reliability tools and practices that effectively support requirements, design, integration and verification, validation, and prediction
  • Strong statistics background
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and managing electronic data files
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills including presentation skills
  • Collaboration and influence skills. Ability to build relationships and work cross-functionally
