Principal Software Engineer, Embedded Systems Development


Medtronic is a world leader in providing health care products that benefit individual's well-being. Our organization contributes directly to this mission; we deliver software for Medtronic's continuous glucose monitoring projects, including mobile apps and embedded firmware.

Our business is growing significantly as the market demands reliable medical devices which look and feel more like consumer devices. As a result, we need a talented firmware and software architect who will ensure we deliver the best software on-time and with high quality for our continuous glucose monitoring products.

The Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) software development team writes the firmware, software, and tools which enable the glucose monitoring features of Medtronic's products. We are looking for an experienced embedded software engineer who can help us continue to make our products more connected and responsive to patient's needs.

Position Responsibilities:

The primary role for this position is writing the low level embedded software interfacing with electronics. As part of this role, you will also coordinate technical discussions and problem solving for software projects and collaborate with the platform and system architects on the impacts of design decisions. You will coach other engineers on best practices and new technologies and review designs and architectures of the development team. You will be a key interface between the software team and other software teams and functions including participating in change control and risk analysis activities as part of the software quality process.

    Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related Engineering field

  • 7+ years of professional experience focused on embedded software and/or embedded systems engineering in a regulated (e.g. medical device, automotive, aerospace, etc) product development environment

  • Experience in C

  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related Engineering field

  • Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy

  • Sound decision making and risk analysis skills

  • Experience in medical software development process such as IEC 62304 or other regulated software development

  • Proficient in Python, or willingness to learn Python

  • Demonstrated embedded systems development experience

  • Team interaction, communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
