Careers Start Here.The Occupational Health Nurse follows Fred Hutch departmental policies and procedures in the development and implementation of programs. This position reports to and works in collaboration with the Occupational Health Program Manager.Responsibilities include: COVID-19 screening, testing, and contact tracing; initial treatment and triage of work-related injuries and accidents; investigation and root-cause analysis of work-related accident/illness and near-miss reports; management of WA State Department of Labor and Industries workers compensation claims ; review of medical screening forms for laboratory animal users and respirator users; post-exposure evaluation and treatment of incidents involving etiologic agents, chemicals, and bloodborne pathogens; administration of immunizations for healthcare workers and laboratory staff; Health and Safety, Institutional Biosafety, and Infection Prevention Committee support; review and development of policies and procedures that ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and mandates.Responsibilities* COVID-19 testing: triaging staff member surveys, coordinating testing, providing results, and conducting contact tracing for positive cases; keep current on COVID-19 stay at home and return to work guidelines (CDC, WA State Department of Health, Public Health Seattle-King County)* Assist with the Worker's Compensation Program including: case management of Fred Hutch/SCCA claims and administering the Return to Work program; review quarterly and monthly Retrospective Rating Program reports, arrange Retro Meetings, receive/deliver Retro checks and collaborate with Fred Hutch Finance Liaisons to determine annual enrollment choices; training and coaching staff members, Supervisors and Management about L&I policies and procedures; liaise with Human Resources for various leave programs; work with Payroll around Keep On Salary Program* Provide first aid and triage care to Fred Hutch staff members who have been injured or developed illness related to their work; refer to external Occupational Health clinics as needed. Use discretion in providing non-work related routine care where health maintenance will allow the individual to remain at the worksite (e.g, dressing changes, suture removal, BP checks, etc.)* Collaborate with EH&S colleagues to investigate work-related accidents and injuries, perform root cause analyses, identify trends, and develop and track implementation measures to prevent future incidences* Develop, manage and refine logging and tracking of worker's compensation claims within an occupational health database* Receive and track accident and illness reports and near miss reports; assist managers in conducting follow-up investigations as needed* Substitute member of the Fred Hutch Health & Safety Committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, and SCCA Infection Prevention Committee when the Occupational Health Manager is unavailable* Maintain the Fred Hutch OSHA 300 Logs and ensure timely posting by the required deadline* Gather data and conduct the annual survey of occupational injuries and illnesses; submit data online to the Bureau of Labor Statistics* Provide staff immunizations and TB screening (healthcare workers, research staff, and volunteers) including placement of TB skin tests and Hepatitis B/MMR/Tdap/Varicella/Influenza vaccines; review laboratory results (rubeola, mumps, rubella, quantiferon, varicella, Hep B, Hep C, HIV) and provide follow-up as needed; smallpox vaccine administration to laboratory members* Review medical respirator questionnaires and refer to external Occupational Health Clinics as needed; review and enter audiometric test reports into occupational health database* Conduct exposure incident response, treatment, and evaluation (Bloodborne Pathogens, Cercopithecine herpesvirus (CHV-1), and various etiologic agents used in research facility)* Coordinate access to and monitor use of mothers rooms on South Lake Union Campus* Review animal health use medical questionnaires and provide medical clearances for vivarium staff; refer to external Occupational Health clinics as needed* Write, review, and provide input into occupational health program policy and procedure development; participate in continuous process improvement measures and project management activities as needed* Optimize the use of EH&S Occupational Health Nursing services through communication with staff members* Provide other services as requested.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS* Five years of experience as a professional nurse.* Licensed RN in the State of Washington.* Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred* Current BLS/CPR required* Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills* Effective written and oral communication skillsDESIRED QUALIFICATIONS* Master's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or other related fields* Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse - Specialist (COHN-S) certification from the American Board of Occupational Health Nursing (ABOHN)* Experience in public speaking and training for group programs.Our Commitment to DiversityWe are proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) Employer.
