This job is the primary representative of the Pratt & Whitney (P&W) / NPO Energomash (NPO EM) Joint Venture, RD AMROSS (RDA) at the United Launch Alliance (ULA) factory in Decatur, Alabama. The job has the following responsibilities: Represent the interests of RDA to the ULA customer related to the RD-180 Rocket Engine Program.
Provide oversight and insight into all aspects of engine integration into the Atlas V launch vehicle, including:
- Monitoring receipt of engines at Huntsville airport, and ULA transport to the Decatur facilities.
- Receiving inspection of engines and spare parts.
- Periodic engine storage inspection
- Presence at key engine integration steps: Electrical tests, hydraulic/pneumatic tests, interface mating, functional testing.
- Cognizance of all other engine integration activities. Attendance at all ULA planning and ops meetings.
- Updating engine logbooks as required as engine operations are completed. Coordinating logbook documentation with WPB.
- Coordinating return of engine shipping containers.
Resolving issues which arise, including autonomous resolution of small items and cooperative resolution with P&W (West Palm Beach) and NPO Energomash (Moscow, Russia) for larger items.
Creating written requests for information from NPO EM as necessary.
Attendance in telcons with RD-180 team members, as necessary.
Processing of quality paperwork as warranted.
Performance of service bulletins (as required). Major component remove and replace activities will have support from NPO EM and/or P&W.
Support of any remove and replace operations required by warranty / non-warranty issues.
Support of any RDA, P&W or NPO EM executive visits, including the NPO EM yearly audit.
Monitoring of ULA-initiated integration process changes.
Backup engineering assistance for Atlas V launches at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Ownership of the "Decatur Operations" section of the RD-180 training program.
Other activities as assigned to support RD-180 program goals.
Providing daily written status to the RD-180 team and attendance at the daily "stand-up" meeting via telecom.
Travel is approximately 10%, with the bulk being support of launches and visits to WPB as necessary.
Non-standard work hours may be required to cover multi-shift activities. Flexible work schedule is available.
4 to 7+ years of experience. New college graduates with relevant work experience will be considered.
Self-motivated. This position is off site and day to day supervision will not be provided.
Good customer communication skills. Success at this job entails a high degree of interface with ULA to resolve critical and non-critical issues.
Knowledge of ITAR / EAR export controls a plus. Training will be provided for candidates without this skill.
Knowledge of Russian Language and Russian design/manufacturing a plus, but not required.
Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
