Role Description:  Staff Project Engineer 

 

The Staff Project Engineer at the Savannah River Mill in Rincon, GA is responsible for leading project teams in the development and implementation of projects at the mill. This individual will also provide technical support to maintenance and operations.

 

The Savannah River Mill has been in operation since 1986, has five of the world’s 12 largest paper machines, and one of the largest tissue recycling operations in the world. The mill manufactures Commercial and Retail Tissue, Towel and Napkin products including Angel Soft®, Vanity Fair® and Sparkle®.  Savannah, GA, located in close proximity to the beaches of Hilton Head, S.C. ant Tybee Island, GA., offers year-round recreation including fishing, boating, surfing, hiking, bike trails and golf.


 

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for providing integrity-based leadership for the execution of capital projects from conceptualization through operational performance testing.

  • Leading project teams in the development and implementation of projects using the Georgia-Pacific project work process and front end loading.

  • Understanding and application of the MBM Guiding Principles to successfully lead project teams in the implementation of strategic capital initiatives.

  • The Staff / Project Engineer supports the value drivers for the mill and the business by safely and responsibly delivering project goals including product quality, production, schedule, and cost.

  • The engineer uses the latest project management tools and techniques to complete all phases of a capital project including: design, procurement, construction, and system start up. 

  • The Decision Making Framework and economic thinking essentials are used to lead the project team in evaluating project alternatives, equipment, vendors and contractors. 

  • Providing technical support to maintenance and operations.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced level of knowledge in project management / mechanical engineering skills including strong analytical capabilities with proven ability to direct and track progress of projects

  • Experience with capital project management for paper machine, pulp processing, and/or utilities installations and modifications

  • Experience developing, requesting funding, designing/managing, and executing capital and expense projects and opportunities in a manufacturing environment

  • Solid analytical thinking skills – ability to foresee technical issues…and report to Senior Management

  • Mechanical maintenance aptitude and troubleshooting / problem solving skills

  • Effectively communicate and execute the organization’s safety and performance to internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to manage projects utilizing strong communication, time management and presentation skills 

What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or other technical field

  • Five years’ experience in Project Engineering/Management in a manufacturing environment, preferably pulp and paper.

  • Work experience as a project manager and/or project engineer responsible for the mechanical engineering capability in Capital Equipment Installation projects.

  • Understanding and application of technical mechanical specifications and drawings, including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Structural, Architectural, and Assembly drawings.

  • Knowledge and experience with organizing and managing multiple projects

  • Use of PC based software systems, including MS Office, including Project, Excel, Word, etc.

What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering

  • Working knowledge in mechanical engineering, process engineering and estimating

  • Experience with the application of CMMS, i.e. Asset Suite / Indus Passport

  • CAD drafting experience - AutoCAD
