Position Title: Data Analyst Location: Downtown NYC Duration: Direct Hire/Contract-to-Hire Position Description The Role: The Senior Data Analyst will perform data analysis of client loan portfolios for the Performance Optimization Program (POP), which is a part of our client. Responsibilities include producing market-based pricing benchmarks as well as supporting the POP's execution tools, primarily the Pricing Guidelines and Management Reporting. The Impact: The Senior Data Analyst is a critical part of the POP's team of five analysts who provide monthly custom analytics to its client base. The role is analytical, involving in-depth data and trend analysis, as well as customer-interactions related to the deliverable process. The Team / The Business: The Senior Data Analyst would be joining a dynamic and growing business unit within our client.. The POP group provides consulting and analytical services to domestic regional banks. Your Skills: Strong analytical & quantitative analysis skills, experience with data mining, strong communication skills and a high proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access are all essential for success in this role. Responsibilities: Performing empirical data analysis to derive bank and market pricing grids. Building pricing grids based on a price-inefficient market, which involves identifying outliers or story credits and examining inconsistent results across banks and/or market segments. Implementing rules to interpolate and/or extrapolate the grids in a manner which is consistent with the underlying data and makes sense from a business standpoint Identify inconsistencies in the grids as per the established audit rules. Apply the standard business rules for interpolating and extrapolating the grids where needed Validate whether the portfolio data is reasonable given the established business rules and given the client's historical data profile. Examples include determining whether the fee data in the current period may be understated, the risk rating scale, has changed, the organizational hierarchy used to map geographies has changed, and whether data anomalies exist. Maintenance of Excel-based pricing tools, used to deliver custom analysis to customers. Running the standard monthly processes to produce client deliverables, including the Maturing Loans Reports and Management Reports. Test and validate the output. Analyzing the data to ensure that the grids are consistent with both current market pricing and the directional trend in pricing. Testing and validating the data to be included in client deliverables. This includes identifying disparities between the current and prior reports or other deliverables and resolving the issues in conjunction with the Associate or Associate Director working with the particular client. Assist with one-off data and analytical requests, on an as-needed basis. Requirements: Bachelor's degree required; degree in finance and/or coursework in statistics is a plus. At least 3 years experience in data analytics. Knowledge of financial markets is required; experience with commercial loans or fixed income is a plus. Strong data mining skills – capable of aiding in the design and execution of financial models and analytics in order to mine customer loan portfolio data for trends and technicals. Proficiency in Access and Excel. Strong analytical skills, including ability to mine data in order to draw meaningful conclusions Good verbal and written communication – important for supporting team and interfacing with clients. Strong customer management skills, including the ability to interact with senior as well as mid-level management on occasion.
