ProMed has immediate DIRECT HIRE openings for REGISTERED NURSE – Brooklyn and Manhatten Locations. Summary: Under general supervision, is responsible for providing assessments, evaluation, diagnosis and therapeutic intervention for students in the school programs in accordance with client' s policies, the regulations and requirements of applicable regulatory agencies and the standards of the profession. Monitors and documents treatment plan and progress. Conveys techniques to others. Participates in consultative process with parents
and team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of the Registered Nurse –  
Performs all or some of the following
• Serves and participates as a member of interdisciplinary team at team meetings, Annual Reviews, Special Review Committee meetings, In-Services, etc. As required. Is responsible for coordinating and follow through on provisions of health care services for assigned program(s).
• Arranges medical services for persons served and issues medical referrals as needed.
• Provides follow-up on medical recommendations and prescriptions for persons served.
• Conducts training for staff in personal hygiene, basic first aid, dental hygiene, infection control, adaptive equipment, vital signs, signs and symptoms of illness and other in-services as may be necessary to meet needs of persons served.
• Handles control of communicable diseases and infections through identification and assessment. Reports to consulting physician and implements appropriate protective and preventive measures and staff training in regard to infection control.
• Monitors required staff health records in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.
• Provides immediate first aid and referral to outside emergency services or private physician.
• Prepares and maintains medical documentation on each person served as needed.
• Administers medications as prescribed. Supervises storage of medications.
• Provides supervision and training for Licensed Practical Nurses and/or less experienced Registered Nurses during their tenure at agency.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good organizational skills
• Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, students and their families and outside contacts
• Must be able to maintain the strictest confidentiality of student and staff records
• Knowledge of equipment typically used by persons receiving services, including wheelchairs and adaptive devices.
• Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective actions
• Must be willing to work at various program sites

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing
• At least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in the delivery of community-based health services to individuals with developmental disabilities.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
• License and current registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to lift and position students. Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling of heavy objects such as furniture, equipment and/or wheelchairs.

Job Description
• Regular exposure to a variety of physical working conditions related to providing personal care assistance to students i.E. Suctioning, tube feedings, trach care, colostomy bags, catheterization, etc.
• Need to take special precautions in the handling of body fluids.
