Sr. Electrical Engineer

Lead a group of electrical engineers and support staff in the design and development of automation controls solutions for semiconductor handling equipment. 

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities: 

  • Design, develop and maintains automation control solutions, including electronic systems, components, circuitry and systems integration for Delta Design semiconductor test handling equipment. 
  • Work on challenging new products or enhancements to existing products.
  • Participate in all phases of the assigned projects, including design, testing and integration of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Follow established engineering procedures and specifications for design and development of analog and digital circuits, electrical components and electrical systems.
  • Investigate, select and test vendor products for use in Delta products.
  • Support manufacturing floor as required.
  • Interface with customers and sales on projects as required.
  • Work independently or collaborate with cross-disciplinary team members to find the best cost effective engineering design solutions.

Supervisory Responsibility: 

  • May provide work leadership and training to lower level technical or professional employees.


  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.  M.S. degree a plus but not required.
  • Minimum of eight years relevant electrical engineering experience.  

Design Experience:

  • Motor and drive selection to match mechanical and motion performance requirements.
  • Motion system architecture for device handlers.
  • Temperature control systems with single feedback.
  • Development of engineering design specifications and test procedures.

Integration Experience:

  • Setting up, tuning and profiling multi axis servo and stepper motion.
  • Analog and digital I/O control for pneumatics valves, sensors, actuators and other discrete controls.
  • Temperature control.
  • CANopen, EtherCAT automation network protocols.

Skills/Technical Requirements: 

  • Strong control system theory.
  • Motion control.
  • Power electronics.
  • Industrial equipment design.
  • R&D, Design of Experiment, Failure Analysis, V&V.
  • Knowledge of Industry Regulatory and Safety Standards (CE, SEMI, and UL).
  • Ability to work cross functionally with Mechanical, Software, Manufacturing and Field Engineers.
  • Interface with Customers and Sales to define requirements.
  • Ability to design custom PCB.
  • Ability to write Engineering design specifications and test procedures.
  • Ability to specify and source components such as motion control hardware, communication modules and temperature controllers.
  • Ability to define requirements, set schedule, and work independently on projects and interface effectively with other team members.
  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills. 
  • Knowledge of good engineering practices and the ability to follow existing guidelines and processes.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Familiarity with schematic capture programs such as ORCAD and Altium.

Job Conditions/Physical Demands: 

  • Domestic or international travel is required.
  • Walking, bending, prolonged sitting at a computer terminal. 
  • Minimal exertion.
