The Wet Friction Material Development Engineer reports to the Section Leader of  Friction Material Development and is responsible for supporting wet friction system development efforts within. This includes testing to determine the mechanical properties of materials, ordering samples from suppliers, and testing the samples for performance. This person will build relationships with both friction material and oil suppliers. The individual will have responsibility for working with suppliers to develop new friction materials to meet the increased challenges of slipping TCC’s and wet launch clutches. S/he must participate in internal training exercises/technical exchanges and will be required to present technical proposals to customers. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Order and analyze new friction materials.
  • Order and evaluate different oil and additive samples.
  • Order testing of new materials.
  • Analyze and present results.
  • Evaluate material performance relative to vehicle objectives.
  • Know and understands the current specifications of the quality policy and procedures and contributes to the achievement of the quality objectives.

Qualifications / Critical Skills:             

  • Technical: Operation of data acquisition equipment,company package software, and basic drive-train knowledge. Desired skills are knowledge of tribology, stress and fatigue analysis, heat transfer theory and knowledge of the current quality specifications.
  • Interpersonal: Communication, presentation skills, team player, able to drive a project to completion.
  • Organizational: Flexible, analytical, multi-tasking, problem solving.


  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science.
  • Prefer knowledge of tribology with wet friction systems experience.
  • Basic knowledge of computer software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary, laboratory and office work.

  • Shift: 1st.
