Manufacturing Engineering provides the mechanical, electrical, assembly and test engineering resources required to support and improve the production, maintenance and repair of legacy handlers.  This effort supports work performed at company production facilities, contract manufacturers, suppliers and customers.

Under minimal supervision or guidance, the Manufacturing Engineer works as a member of the Manufacturing Engineering team in order to execute the following functions. 

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:         

  • Identify, test and qualify mechanical, electronic and/or optical components required as replacements for obsolete components.
  • This effort may require part design, tooling design, test plan creation, process development and change order management.
  • Work closely, and coordinate with suppliers and contract manufacturers on parts, assemblies and outsourced manufacturing.
  • Write, or work closely with Technical Publications to produce concise manufacturing documentation to convey assembly and test requirements and processes, instructions, illustrations and procedures.
  • Train internal manufacturing personnel, field service personnel, suppliers, and contract manufacturers.
  • Work closely, and coordinate with Quality on Quality processes and issues.
  • Facilitate product/component launch. 
  • Respond to and resolve complex production issues. 
  • Lead Process Improvement Initiatives.
  • Ensure effective use of material, equipment and personnel in producing quality products at minimum cost.
  • Domestic and international travel might be required.

Supervisory Responsibility: 

  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to production supervisors and lower level manufacturing engineers. 
  • Provide interim supervision to assembly operators during engineering transitions and new product introduction to manufacturing.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing or Engineering or related technical discipline required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of eight years applicable experience in manufacturing engineering involved in the production and testing of electromechanical assemblies and systems. 
  • Experience with capital equipment – test handlers or automation equipment – preferred. 

Skills/Technical Requirements: 

  • Basic workflow processes in the assembly and testing of electromechanical systems. 
  • Solid working knowledge of statistical process control methods.  Intermediate to advanced SolidWorks and MS Office Suite to include Project and Access.  
  • Proven skill set in MRP/ERP systems, Lean Manufacturing and KanBan; working knowledge of Mistake Profiling Principles (Pokeyoke). 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving and communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Works in a lab environment with constant or intermittent noise.

Physical Demands/Strengths: 

  • Use of keyboards. 
  • Ability to lift twenty pounds; occasional exertion.
