Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to components for functional, operational, environmental, and life conditions to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model or to obtain data for development, standardization, quality control, and/or contract requirements.
  • Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method.
  • Set up standard test apparatus or devises to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model.
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and troubleshooting functions.
  • Adjust, calibrate, align, and modify circuitry and components and record effects on unit performance.
  • Check functioning of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance or calibration of equipment or systems.
  • Adjust or replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry or electronics components, using hand tools or soldering irons.
  • Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with external and/or internal sources as necessary to procure replacement parts.
  • Provide user applications or engineering support or recommendations for new or existing equipment with regard to installation, upgrades, or enhancements.
  • Activate controls to apply electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical power.
  • Assist mechanical and electrical engineers in the planning and testing of electronic and mechanical components, equipment, and machinery, such as instruments, machine tools, CNC machines, etc.
  • Help prepare proposals and cost estimates for any new machine and tools.
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education, Experience, and Abilities:

  • An associate (two-year technical) degree, a diploma from a technical or vocational school or equivalent military training.
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Intermediate circuit analysis with the ability to troubleshoot systems and printed circuit card assemblies to root cause using schematics, electronic and operational theory and logic.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to the component level is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of blueprints and/or engineering drawings; ability to build, test or troubleshoot complex assemblies from detail, assembly blueprints/schematics and Bill of Materials.
  • Must have strong knowledge of the principles of electronics and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience testing electronic assemblies using both traditional and non-traditional tooling such as multi-meter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, power supply, function generator, LCD meter, etc.
  • Experience using a variety of hand tools and machine shop tools and equipment (grinders, drill press, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret design specifications from a detailed drawing and operate machine tooling to successfully manufacture a part.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills, including ability to open and create files in Word, create and manipulate data in Excel and use E-mail and calendars in Outlook.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems with the skills to review Bills of Materials, inventory quantities and locations, and other component information.
  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills at a business level; follow written and verbal procedures, instructions, read blueprints and schematics, and write business reports about the work accomplished.
  • Candidate must possess U.S. citizenship or be a "U.S. Person". (A U.S. Person is defined as a person who is a lawful permanent resident "Green Card holder" as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1101 (a)(20) or who is a "Protected Individual" as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).)

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
