Speech Language Pathologist Opening (Phoenix, AZ)



Description:



Provides services for students who have a speech or language delay.



Duties & Responsibilities:




  • Participates in identification, screening, , evaluation, enrollment and placement of students in DIS speech and language program, severe disorders of language (SDL), learning handicapped (LH) and other programs.

  • Establishes the extent and severity of the handicaps and makes recommendations for enrollment priority to the Child Student Team.

  • Implements the prescriptive programs and recommendations of the Speech-Language Pathologist on the Child Study Team through the scheduling of individual and/or group therapy sessions and conferences with teachers, parents, and other school personnel.

  • Develops and provides for implementation of an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for pupils with speech and language deficits that meet state criteria.

  • Refers students, when indicated, to Health Specialist, Psychologist, RSP and outside agencies, etc., for further evaluations related to their speech, language and hearing problems.

  • Maintains appropriate files and records on each student according to the state guidelines.

  • Confers/counsels with parents and professional staff members on the student’s progress.

  • Attends staff and in service meetings as required.

  • Interprets the DIS speech and language therapy program to school personnel and the community.

  • Meets the requirements of board policy.

  • Maintains professional competence through participation in in service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.



Qualifications:




  • Must have current Arizona SLP credentials or eligible

  • Some school-based experience is preferred

  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus, however not required
