The Institute of Popular Education of Southern California (IDEPSCA) is a nonprofit community-based organization whose purpose is to promote self-determination in the Latino community in Southern California politically, culturally, and economically using popular education methodology. We promote the development of collective solutions to community problems.
Mujeres en Acción has been a project under IDEPSCA’s Workers’ Health Program, but is now transitioning into its own stand-alone program. Originally started by domestic workers members of the organization in 2011, Mujeres in Acción focuses on the interests and needs of immigrant women through outreach, education and advocacy. Mujeres en Acción values the paid and unpaid work of all women and seeks to support them in their personal, community and family development.
Position Summary:The Program Manager will take the lead in accomplishing the goals, plans, activities, evaluations and performance of the Mujeres en Acción program. This position will lead administrative work ensuring fulfillment of grants/contract requirements and funding compliance reporting, and other financial and accounting procedures to maintain accountability in the project. Main areas of focus will include: strategic planning and implementation of work plan, Staff supervision, external communication with coalitions and key partners, training and development of Staff and grant and organizational reporting. The Program Manager will ensure the leadership and representation of members within existing coalition partners such as: CHANGE (Californians for a Healthy & Green Economy), CDWC (California Domestic Workers Coalition), Los Angeles Worker Center Network and the NDWA (National Domestic Workers Alliance). The Program Manager works as part of a team with the Program Coordinator and Outreach staff.
1. Fundraising & Developmenta. Seek funding opportunities with support from the Executive Director to be able to sustain the program’s growthb. Network and continue building with new and existing funders to create a continuous source of funding for the Programc. Lead and support in grant writing for opportunities identified jointly with Executive Director
2. Supervision & Team Supporta. Review and support Staff in setting weekly priorities (or as needed) that align with Program’s work planb. Schedule check-in meetings with Staff to ensure healthy workflow andcommunication and attainment of Program deliverablesc. Yearly Evaluation with Staff to assess individual growth and challengesd. Take lead in Evaluation of key projects and delegating important next stepse. Provide different avenues for Staff development. This may include readings, webinars, conferences and workshops on: popular education, time management, healthy communication and community organizing and any others identified by the Team.f. Host quarterly 1-1’s check-ins (individual meetings) with members and key member leaders of Mujeres en Acción to identify or support with any conflict resolution, miscommunication or changes needed for the group.g. Provide positive reinforcement, constructive criticism and overall feedback regularly for Team members. Encourage self-criticism, accountability and healthy communication amongst the Team.
3. Administrative worka. Review and ensure timesheets are submitted in a timely manner for Program.b. Review and confirm check requests and reimbursements of Program expensesc. Regularly review Program budget with support of Administrator to ensure financial needs are being met.d. Lead in compiling all data and important information needed to submit internal reports, such as the monthly reports to the Executive Director. This includes the main areas of membership growth, outreach efforts, leadership development and coalition work.e. Review and approve Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreements to be signed by Executive Director for different grant opportunities or partnerships.f. Participates in monthly Management meetings comprised of all Program Managers and Executive Director to successfully move forward organizational projects.
4. Coalition Building & External Relationsa. Strategically represent Mujeres en Acción in coalitions, networks and other external groups that will broaden program visibility, advance domestic worker and women’s rights, and/or bring resources for organization and membership.b. Identify coalition opportunities where Mujeres en Acción member leaders can participate and grow by representing the group.c. Delegate Team members different roles to support with coalition building (local, state, and national level).d. Continuously update and check in with Team about progress with key partners.e. Lead the high-level strategic thinking of campaign, coalition and any advocacy or policy work on behalf of Mujeres en Acción.f. Ensure that Mujeres en Acción is represented in key areas, such as: worker and immigrant rights, environmental and reproductive justice.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Skills and Qualifications)● At least 1-year experience in Program Management.● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.● Knowledgeable in popular education and community organizing.● General knowledge and commitment to immigrant rights, social justice, grassroots advocacy and women’s rights.● Bilingual (English and Spanish).● Excellent writing and analytical skills.● Strong knowledge of computer operations (programs such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint)● Patience and courtesy a must.● Ability to work well with diverse groups and populations.● Ability to work early, long hours and weekends when necessary.● Ability to prioritize tasks and work well under pressure.
