Our client is looking for a Mechanical Field Data Collector to provide as-built measurements and photo documentation of existing mechanical piping & equipment at facilities operated by customer, located throughout the state of Michigan. It will be a 12+ month contract.

Typical Assignments:

  • Adhere to the Customer Transmission Drafting Field Data Collection Procedure.
  • Adhere to safety equipment requirements & procedures.
  • Review emergency & non-emergency contact information.
  • Review project scope & schedule with Transmission Drafting (TD) team.
  • Travel to site(s) to collect mechanical field data.
  • Document existing site conditions.
  • Use the provided set of mechanical drawings to verify dimensions, materials bubbles, material quantities and confirm descriptions are correct.
  • Provide field sketches as required.
  • Photograph entire site including inside of buildings, along with evidence of any potential risk hazard.
  • Document new construction.
  • Use the provided set of mechanical “approved for construction” drawings to provide red-line markups during/after construction.
  • Provide field sketches as required.
  • Photograph entire site (including all below grade piping, prior to being backfilled) and inside of buildings.


  • Follow Customer Contractor Safety Handbook and other specified safety procedures as provided by TD staff.


  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical process piping experience including a firm understanding of welded, flanged and threaded process piping assemblies and installations or 5 years of survey experience collecting detailed field as-built data at industrial plants.
  • Firm understanding of plan, section and detail views, of process piping assemblies and installations (2D drawing files).
  • Firm understanding of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Firm understanding of isometric and schematic drawings.
  • Able to prepare detailed field sketches.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated pro-active approach to work performance.
  • Work a flexible schedule as some overtime may be required.
  • Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications.

Candidate shall provide:

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including Toe protected safety boots.
  • Safety glasses that meet ANSI Z87.1 requirements.
  • Hard hat that meets ANSI Z89.1, Class E Hard hat requirements.
  • FR Safety high visibility vest (when applicable) and Fire retardant (FR) clothing (worn during construction activities).
  • Gloves.
  • Hearing protection (ear plugs and or ear muffs).
  • 100% cotton clothing.
  • Field Equipment.
  • Personal first aid kit.
  • Digital camera.
  • Laptop.
  • Cellular phone.
  • Calculator.
  • Measuring devices (Steel tape measures, cloth measure, laser, etc.).
  • Notepads.
  • Clipboard.
