As a member of the manufacturing engineering team, this position is accountable for maintaining process predictability and the creation of new processes, hardware and technologies.  In addition this position will document all processes in their assigned value stream to be used for training and process improvement.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.                           

  • Accountable to develop safe processes and drive a safety first culture.
  • Accountable to maintain machine process predictability with a Cpk > 1.33.
  • Accountable to use Design of Experiment whenever processes are being changed.
  • Accountable to trouble shoot shop floor issues using Design of Experiment.
  • Accountable to follow all ISO 9001 standards for the qualification of new processes and equipment.
  • Responsible to record entries in the process journal when applicable.
  • Recommends improvements and new equipment to the SPM.
  • Accountable to train and coach operators and technicians in regards to new and existing equipment and processes when applicable.
  • Accountable to resolve tactical process issues as part of the escalation policy.
  • Assists the DO in the implementation of process improvement including work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and layout to maximize productivity. 
  • Accountable to document processes and test procedures in ISO 9001 quality standard to facilitate training and ensure the consistent execution of processes.
  • Accountable for creating time standards for production and testing processes.
  • Collaborates with R&D to define, document, analyze, perform, and interpret tests for products, systems, components, or modifications.
  • Designs, develops and releases test procedures with acceptance (P/F) criteria for testing products at both subassembly and final assembly levels for use with the test apparatus in production.
  • Designs, develops and releases test procedures with acceptance (P/F) criteria for testing products at both subassembly and final assembly levels for use with the test apparatus in production.
  • Designs, develops, characterizes, validates and releases test apparatus as needed for the production of products.
  • Designs, develops, implements and monitors process control mechanisms on manufacturing lines.
  • Identifies and implements technology solutions that collect data and measure process variables.
  • Assists Engineering/R&D in the development of products by providing manufacturability, ease of assembly, and other inputs as appropriate. Feedback learnings from production to improve manufacturability of new R&D programs.
  • Develops and tests models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification.
  • Recommends design modifications to eliminate product, subassembly or system malfunctions.
  • Responsible for reviewing engineering changes for implementation in manufacturing. Updates assembly and test procedures.
  • As part of the Material Review Board, determines actions required for material rejected from incoming inspection and in-process.
  • Accountable for the creation of assembly and test fixtures used in manufacturing.
  • Assists SPM in establishing standards for processes.
  • Accountable for preparing documentation as a result of the Design Review process.
  • Assists and advises other managers and engineers in the execution of their duties.
  • Supports kaizen efforts due to corrective and preventative actions.                       
  • Monitors statistical measures to ensure processes are in control.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in mechanical or industrial engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role.
  • Must have experience in the manufacturing of a technical product.
  • Strong grasp of MANUFACTURING principles, e.g. LEAN, VSM, DFMEA/PFMEA, DFx, Design Review Process, Engineering Change Control, throughput, utilization, cycle time, process capability and control, process flows, facility layout, , CAPA, and testing strategies, along with how to most effectively use them.
  • Understanding Six Sigma root-cause analyses and problem solving tools (8-D, FMEA, Gauge R&R, SPC, DFMEA, fishbone diagrams, 5 Whys).
  • Green belt certification preferred
  • Experience supporting low volume, high complexity and high volume, low mix manufacturing.
  • Experience with the product realization life cycle from prototype into production.
  • Understanding of FASTENING methods, along with how to most effectively use them (fasteners, rivets, ultrasonic welding, weldments, heat staking, adhesives).
  • Understanding of DRIVE components (motors, solenoids, encoders, gears, belts, pulleys, clutches, bearings) and FLUIDIC HANDLING components (pumps, fans, seals, valves, transducers, flow meters) to provide appropriate manufacturing engineering support.
  • Understanding of modern FABRICATION techniques, along with how to most effectively use them (milling/turning, injection molding, roto-molding, extruding, casting, sheet metal, laser or dye cutting, water jet, plunge and wire EDM, vacuum forming, anodizing, and surface coating)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral).
  • Prior experience with Process Simulation software and Solidworks preferred.
  • Experience using test software or scripts for testing to support manufacturing appropriately.
  • Knowledge of regulatory processes and requirements (UL, CE, ROHS, FDA, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate on a global and regional basis using clear and concise oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency of MS Office applications.
  • Ability to manage complex and/or critical internal and external relationships requiring diplomacy, strong negotiating, analytical and technical skills
  • Ability to manage projects lasting up to one year
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding proprietary company information
  • Works in a pleasant office environment with other department staff, utilizing a computer workstation and various software applications.
  • Demonstrated prior experience successfully completing the primary duties listed above, specifically with success solving complex problems, demonstrating innovation in continuous improvement projects, and a high degree of professionalism and accountability.

  • Travel requirement:  Must be willing to travel up to 2-5%.
