The position of a clinical technologist in flow cytometry at Hematologics is a dynamic position requiring the ability to provide accurate and precise clinical laboratory services while being able to shift between multiple different duties and roles fluidly. In addition, this position requires interpersonal skills enabling the individual to work with the flow team as well as the other teams in the company. Strong interpersonal skills are also needed for interactions with clients. The diverse clientele of a reference laboratory requires the ability to understand the different needs of the multitude of clients we serve.

Minimum of 2+ years of clinical laboratory experience-MT or MLT, ASCP certified individual preferred

Willing to work Saturdays with compensated time off and occasional on-call coverage during the week

The following points are highlights of some of the more specific aspects of this role.

  • Receive and distribute specimens to all sections

  • Accession samples for all sections with minimal errors

  • Select appropriate flow cytometry panels for samples

  • Accurately pipette appropriate antibodies

  • Process and accurately pipette samples into their appropriate tubes

  • Run samples on flow cytometers with special attention given to flow rates and other errors of acquisition

  • Become familiar and able to execute troubleshooting procedures for reagents and instrumentation

  • Develop basic understanding of dot-plot interpretation, data analysis, and our difference from normal approach

  • Review reports and resolve any issues before they are released to the client

  • Process add-ons for all sections and all appropriate paperwork and notifications to client

  • Prepare cocktails and other laboratory reagents as well as stock supplies

  • Archive specimens as appropriate

  • Review instrument QA/QC

  • Participate in technologist competency program

  • Participate in laboratory meetings

  • Will be required to learn cell-sorting techniques
