Director of Donor Recognition and Engagement

The Division of University Relations seeks to hire a Director to lead recognition and engagement initiatives for the University of Maryland’s most loyal and generous donors. The Director will design and implement an institution-wide and comprehensive donor communication and recognition plan by ensuring university donors at all levels are appropriately and consistently interacted with and recognized.

The Director of Donor Recognition and Engagement will manage strategic communications and recognition events that contribute to the university’s reputation for excellence and align with development priorities and fundraising goals. This individual will work in partnership with development and donor relations staff to cultivate and steward new and existing relationships with donors through organized and structured programming. Further, they will manage campus-wide naming recognition inventory and communications, and assist with other centralized donor engagement events.

This position requires the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and programs.

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:
Minimum of six years of progressive experience in the field of stewardship, donor relations, development, advancement communications or related field.

The successful candidate must also demonstrate an understanding of donor relations and stewardship to a successful fundraising program, have experience working in a complex environment and managing situations involving numerous and competing priorities, and have some supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to interact with donors and senior-level executives and administrators.
Ability to establish measurable goals and objectives and develop and implement strategies for success as well as lead, motivate, set objectives and manage performance of staff.
Ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to donors and the university.
Strong customer service experience.
Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects under demanding deadlines.
Ability to perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others.
Proficiency in data analysis and report preparation, along with experience in budgeting and strategic planning.
